Overview
Two countries. Two national parks. One day you'll be talking about for years. Just two hours from Prague, the forest suddenly opens onto Pravčická Gate — the largest sandstone arch in Europe, the second-largest on Earth, so cinematic it stood in for Narnia on screen and pulls a quarter of a million visitors every year. You'll understand why the moment the trail rounds the corner. After a hearty lunch in the hills we slip across the border into Germany's Saxon Switzerland and step onto the Bastei, a cliff-top bridge from 1851 — one of the very first tourist sights in central Europe — with the Elbe winding far below through a sea of sandstone towers. Wild, romantic and impossibly photogenic — and the driving, the guide and every ticket are already taken care of.
